If a new service is upgraded 100 amp fuses to 100 amp breakers
are arc fault breakers required when there was none in the original installation?
I know that the bedrooms must be protected with arcfault breakers in a new building (no problem) but with a older building separating circuit may involve a lot of extra work ,so if it is required when upgrading to breakers then I should price accordingly.
thanks for the help,I really appreciate it

You do not need to install arc fault breakers if they were not installed in the first place.

Let me make it clearer. If the permit for the wiring of the bedroom receptacles is dated for April 25, 2002 or earlier, arc fault protection would not be required.
